Many people can benefit from using self-help booklets as an aid to understand the problems they are experiencing and learn new ways to help them deal with those problems. In this section we are offering booklets on a range of mental health problems that are known to benefit from self-help. These can be particularly beneficial to those with less severe problems. Browse our list of self-help guides below:

How to use the self help guides

The guides provide easy to understand information on a specific problems. They sometimes include self-evaluation questionnaires and information on simple self-care techniques to alleviate the problem. In order to get the best use from the booklets, we have provided some guidance below:

  • The booklets should be used as early as possible when the person recognises they are experiencing a mental health problem. This may help stop the problems getting any worse.

  • It is best to print out the booklet and use it like a workbook.

  • Some of the self help guides have been developed in England, therefore some of the contact numbers at the back of the guides are focussed on people living in England. If you require local information on services you can browse our service directory.

  • Remember if your problem persists or is causing you concern speak to your GP.
